Countdown to the summer

  1. NOVEMBER-MAY – Screening and interviewing of applicants by BUNAC/IEP.
  2. November onwards – You mail us your needs for 2008 on the pink Staff Requirements form.
  3. DECEMBER-MAY – We select applications for your consideration.
  4. You indicate your acceptance of counselors by firstly returning the ‘Acceptance’ card to BUNAC, Connecticut, and secondly by sending two copies per counselor of your regular camp contract to our London, Auckland or Melbourne office as applicable. With the contract you also mail the counselor information describing your camp and your camp philosophy.
  5. Counselor signs and returns one copy of the contract.
  6. MARCH-APRIL – Orientations for all counselors. Processing by BUNAC of appropriate visa, insurance, flight and so on.
  7. EARLY JUNE – Payment by camp to BUNAC to cover visa administration, travel, and placement expenses; and provision of bus/ train ticket and/or route instructions for staff.
  8. MAY/JUNE – Meeting (usually at a local bus stop) of your counselors in time for your own camp orientation.
  9. Assistance in obtaining Social Security cards for international staff and in the SEVIS validation process for all BUNAC staff. (BUNAC will advise on the details.) Payment of balance of in-hand salary to counselors at any time during season.
  10. AUGUST – End of camp season. You bid farewell to your BUNAC staff who are then free to travel around North America before flying home in September or October.
