Summer Camp USA - Information for Camp Directors.
BUNAC’s Summer Camp USA program offers each camp a professional,
personal, friendly and selective counselor placement service.
We aim to provide the best possible placement for an overseas counselor applicant,
as well as an overall quality summer camp experience for both camp and counselor.
BUNAC placement staff have extensive knowledge of summer camps and international
staffing issues. Applicants are matched with camps according to their background.
skills and experience. When you receive an application for consideration, you are
the only director looking at the dossier.
BUNAC is a non-profit organisation committed to the value of international, cultural
exchange programs. We have a proven track record of providing outstanding camp counselors,
many of whom return to camp for several years.

Structure
Summer Camp USA is the camp counselor program of BUNAC,
the British Universities North America Club. This is BUNAC’s 38th year of placing
overseas counselors on US and Canadian summer camps. BUNAC is a non-profit, educational
exchange organization specializing in operating reciprocal overseas work/travel
and volunteer programs for students and other young people around the world.
BUNAC was set up in 1962 in the UK and has representatives on most campuses. In
Australia and New Zealand we recruit for Summer Camp USA
through BUNAC’s subsidiary organisation, IEP, International Exchange Programs. BUNAC
also works with co-operators and representatives in other countries to recruit staff
for camps.
Summer Camp USA counselors come to the USA on a special
J-1 exchange visitor program sponsored by IENA, International Exchange of North
America. The program is administered according to the guidelines for international
camp counselor programs laid down by the US and Canadian governments.
The BUNAC Difference
Individual placement - When you receive a Summer Camp USA
or KAMP dossier, you get an application selected especially
to suit your camp. You are the only director to receive this dossier.
Personal service - Your regular year-round contact is with our Connecticut
staff who are eager to get to know you and your camp’s needs.
Experience and professional expertise - Our US placement staff are knowledgeable
and experienced in international staff placement. They know camps and they know
what to look for in an application. We aim to get the right match.
Cost effectiveness - BUNAC’s non-profit structure generally enables participants
to receive more in-hand pocket money and pay less up-front while the total costs
to camps remain competitive.
Mature, skilled, qualified staff - BUNAC applicants are generally 19 or older
and if students, will usually have completed at least one year of college or university.
Summer support - During the summer, in order to provide fuller and more immediate
back-up for participants and camps and counselors, we open a second office in New
York City. Throughout the summer, round the clock support is available to participants
and camps
Cultural exchange - BUNAC participants bring an extra, special dimension
to camp life. Your campers will benefit from their motivation, enthusiasm and desire
to share their culture with the children.
